Amby the Dare Devil: Snorting Vitamins and Mints

Posted by Simon at 10:09pm on Friday the 14th of March, 2008

One time Amby snorted a crushed papaya-extract vitamin for a dollar--his idea, of course.  Another time he snorted a crushed Altoid mint.

Ambrose looks adorable in this picture, but there is a story behind it.  We were all in love with our dog shadow, so it was a photo op for her; Amby got a little jealous and asked me to take this picture of him.  He was much more cooperative then shadow.

My best friend

Amby and I clicked right away the first moment I met him at Ami and Simon's apartment.  We were both 15. He was talking a million miles and hour and giggling with a strange maniacle look on his face.  He played Portis Head for me on their playstation and complained (as he would always do to me) about how nobody else like them.  I loved him from the moment I saw him there in his teva sandals - green cordoury pants, and tie dye shirt.  I took him out to a house I was house-sitting for and we talked about how on any given day you can be doing something so random that you weren't expecting to do when you woke up that morning.

Once we went to Movies 10 and saw toy story 2, and while we waited outside in the cold for my mom to come and pick us up- so we cuddled together for warmth, and then decided to check out this limo right in front of us that was empty - we jumped inside and giggled.

He would come over to my house un-announced- lay on my sofa and play where is my mind by the pixies on my computer over and over again for about a month - while all he did was complain to me about this or that.

We met up with eachother in Washington D.C. one summer, he was visiting Tim (his brother) and I was visiting my dad.  He knew how much I loved Rainbow Brite - and he had gone onto ebay and bought a whole collection for me, and gave it to me as soon as we met at Union Station.  we spent the day running around the city.

Another time years later he we were at Shasta College playing tennis - there is a huge ditch there, and I through him the ball - he over-stepped and fell completley and clumsily into the ditch, and came up laughing hysterically at himself.  We were very competitve with eachother and loved a good game of ping pong whether we were at Kangaroo Courts or a bar in San Diego.

When I married Simon, I felt relieved because I knew that I would now always be in Amby's life - no matter how much older we got - No matter how much we (mostly I) nagged at eachother - I wish with all my heart I had more time with him.  I always told him that no matter how much he made me angry it wasn't fare because I always forgave him time and time again because I loved him too much to stay upset.

My eyes are always going to water now.
